  • Is picking or creating <insert Digimon name> alright?
We aim to be flexible with people choosing canon Digimon, making their own or mixing them as long as they are not overpowered. See How to choose a Digimon for details.
  • I want to bring in a younger tamer under 18 - are there any special rules?
The minimum age for a tamer is 12. If they are under 18 they are legally required to have a guardian. Lost tamers, who were born on the island usually grow up with their parents. Neo tamers under 18 usually either get adopted by adoptive human or Digimon parents as the government supports this and provides financial aid. There are also boarding schools where underage tamers without caretakers can live study and share a room with their Digimon partner, or other young humans/Digimon. Other rules are similar to those in the real world - no driving, no staying out too late, or buying/consuming alcohol etc. But young people never liked following rules. Underage tamers are also not officially allowed outside the walls without supervision - that does not mean some never try to sneak out.
  • How do I join?
Please check the How to join page. Digimon City is a closed group and we do openings when it is a more suitable time for the mods or plot wise. As more tamers arrive during new years, we usually aim to at least open the group around that time as well. If you have a friend in the group you can ask them to buy you an invite item outside of opening times.
  • Can I make my own D-Vice? Or tweak the one from the D-Vice Creator?
Yes you can! It just needs to look like a believable tamagotchi that more or less fits the 90s theme. While the egg-shape is standard, you can make it a block like the Digimon V-Pets or something else that makes sense. We have also been asked for blank bases for the D-Vice, so here they are! Screen only if you don't want to draw the markings onto a custom shape:
  • How is time within DC affected?
Time still moves on in a linear sense, the same as in the rest of the world. Humans and animals age just the same way. However, many objects such as material goods might get affected by the glitch and change to equivalent or similar goods from different ages before the year 2000 - mostly sticking to the 90s of course! (For example baggy jeans could turn into jeans that are only wide at the tips, or your cereal package design might go from 1999 to 1990)
  • What are the Digimon outside the wall like? How likely is it to encounter them?
Digimon in the wilderness can be dangerous. Especially around new years. However, it is possible to encounter friendly Digimon as well. Approximate likelyhood of encountering dangerous digimon outside the city depends on how far from the city you are. • 20% within 24h close to the city. (About 3 miles / 5 km range from it) Mostly rookies/champions • 60% within 24h at a medium distance. (3 - 12 miles/ 5 - 19 km from DC). More champions, some ultimates. Less rookies, but could happen. • More dangerous there on out, but sufficient data lacking. It is recommended to exercise caution when leaving the city, and to bring at least a Champion level Digimon with you, or one that is freely able to digivolve to Champion or higher (a tamers partner Digimon that has champion or higher unlocked).
  • How big are the CCard and D-Vice compatible chips?
The CCard is about the size of a credit card - only a corner needs to be scanned by the D-Vice. Chips with additional features that are planned to be introduced later are about the size of HitClips.
  • Ok, so are the Retro Islands in the real or Digiworld?
After the Y2k crash, it is both. That may sound confusing, so let me explain. Physical matter exists in the real world, and digital matter exists in the Digital World. On the Retro Isles both exist simultaneously. If you have ever played The Legend Of Zelda: Twilight Princess, DC has a similar theme with parallel dimensions overlapping one another.
  • Are there Digimon in the real world? Can my neo tamer meet their Digimon before coming to the island?
Digimon only exist in the Digital World, and on the Horizon Archipelago/Retro Isles where Dome City is located. Yet travel to the Digital World or the real world is not possible from there. Your neo tamer can already have a "destined" Digimon waiting for them as soon as they arrive, or you can include a period of them not having a partner yet in their backstory.
  • Is the group connected to the original Digimon anime/games?
Nope! We wanted to pull away from that as much as possible and do something new. That being said, we still pay homage to the original series in fun little ways.
  • I don't understand how the glitch works! What is affected by the glitch?
Anything that is not a biological lifeform could glitch - that is, change its form or location, or appear distorted. We leave it up to our members how frequently and wildly objects or their Digimon glitch. Overall there seems to be a tendency of glitches not being dangerous and not all Digimon are affected by it equally or even directly at all. Basically it’s up to you unless it’s too extreme! While this should be enough info, if you want more details, see the glitch page on the DC Wiki.
  • Do Digimon go to school?
Yes! They can either pursue basic or upper education on their own or follow their tamers to their classes (at least as long as they behave). Digimon can also be teachers or professors. However, unlike human children, Digimon are still in a status where they do not need to go to school. Many tamers who need to be able to focus on their work or school life and are unable to do so with their Digimon around, leave their monster friends at daycare during this time.
  • Can my tamer/Digimon work as <insert job title>?
Probably! We are yet to introduce rangers, but your tamer is more than welcome to work more or less any job available in the real world, or something more closely related to Digimon or the world of Digimon City. Examples of normal jobs: police officer, doctor at the DC medical campus, TV star, mailman, waiter etc, DC University professor. Examples of DC jobs: researching the glitch or digivolution, engineering D-Vices, digimonologist (like a zoologist), large Digimon might also be able to hold jobs lifting objects or other citizens.
  • What do rangers do? Can my tamer become a ranger?
Rangers need to be properly introduced by the mods before your tamer can choose this as their occupation. For what info we have, see the wiki page on Rangers.
  • I missed an event! Can I still post a submission?
Yes you can! You earn a slightly smaller event bonus and you will also not be able to earn special rewards like "free" Digivolution unlocks and other items upon event completion. You may always purchase Digivolution items from the shop for credits.
  • Does Digimon City do activity checks?
So far we haven't. Members will definitely be notified if that happens and what form it would take. So far what we have considered is an interest check where the mods would contact people we haven't heard from for a longer time, because sometimes life just gets too busy. We do keep some track of who is around more, and "hide" members from the inventory page we haven't seen around for a long time but haven't left fully. Click "toggle hidden" to see.
  • How many NPCs can I have?
We don't have a cap on NPCs. The main rule about NPCs is that they exist to support your main characters, so they shouldn't be stealing the spotlight. Usually, a submission needs to feature a playable character (one you made an app for), with NPCs being optional additions. Some posts showing family members or living conditions are also okay to submit to expand on the playable characters' lives (but they don't usually count for events and such).
  • I used to be a member, how can I rejoin?
You can rejoin at any time! (Unless you got a personal ban that is) Get ahold of us by contacting one of the mods directly or via a friend, or send us a note on DeviantArt. If you're joining with your old character(s), you're all set! If you're joining with a new character or highly updated app, the app would need to be reviewed. We might take preventative measures if people start leaving just to rejoin with a new character - if you just wish to change your character please contact the mods while we don't have a system set up for this yet.
